Senior Technical Editor, Google Cloud Security

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience creating content for technical audiences (e.g., developer documentation, Computer Science course material, or IT administration playbooks).
  • 4 years of experience performing copy and developmental edits for product documentation, online publishing, or technical blogging.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in writing, engineering, or scientific-related field.
  • 3 years of technical writing experience.
  • 2 years of experience leading projects, initiatives, or teams.
  • Experience in a related technical area.
  • Experience with HTML or markdown.
  • Excellent communications and teamwork skills.

About the job

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

This team’s mission is to help customers understand Cloud Security and help enable partner writing teams to provide a consistent, enterprise-level experience across a diverse product portfolio.

As a Senior Technical Editor on the team you will proofread, revise, and edit technical content to enable large writing teams to provide a consistent, enterprise-level experience across a diverse product portfolio. You will work with technical writers and partner teams to ensure that a common understanding of content, quality and comprehensiveness is maintained and style guidance and best practices are shared. You'll collaborate with other tech writers, engineers, and product managers to deliver and maintain quality documentation and a great user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of technical writers to edit, publish, and maintain high-quality documentation and online content (e.g., overview/concept documentation, how-to guides, and API references).
  • Consult with writers on developmental editing, content strategy, information architecture, terminology and branding decisions.
  • Consult on and perform large documentation maintenance projects.
  • Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others, and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.
  • Work with a global team of engineers, product teams, content strategists, and other technical writers.
