Engineering Manager, Looker Modeling and Storage Lifecycle

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 5 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
  • Experience with data processing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

The Google Cloud's Data Analytics suite of services helps users to collect, store, process, and analyze data in the cloud. Looker is a strategic BI platform, as part of Data Analytics suite. We are part of the Looker's Modeling team, responsible for defining a data model enabling BI users to easily explore data and rapidly build insightful visualization dashboards.

In this role, you will be re-defining the Looker Modeling's storage and its life-cycle management, along with defining the next generation of modeling that can be consumed as a service outside of the product (i.e. by the wider Data Analytics ecosystem).

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Build a high-performing team to land Modeling Life-cycle initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, fostering team growth and development, and cultivate a collaborative team environment that grows on innovation, experimentation, and knowledge sharing.
  • Encourage prototyping team ideas, balancing the team's focus on scalable and impact products to customers. Ensure the team stays at AI/BI solutions by providing opportunities for learning, development, and collaboration with external experts, articulate team's goal, progress, challenges to stakeholders, within or outside the organization.
  • Establish clear project goals/milestones, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term objectives.Allocate project resources strategically, ensuring on time delivery within budget, while also allowing for flexibility and adaptability.
  • Implement metrics to evaluate the impact of a team's work, in terms of research advancements and product impact.
