Senior Software Engineer, XR EngProd

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • Experience with Android application development.
  • Experience working on the Linux kernel.
  • Experience working with continuous integration or AI platforms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in developing developer tools, automation frameworks, testing infrastructure, or Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) systems.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role, with the ability to drive projects, influence peers, and make sound technical decisions.
  • Experience in applying AI/ML techniques to software engineering problems which includes familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs), and experience with platforms/tools like Gemini or other AI-driven development assistants.
  • Excellent coding skill in C, C++, Java or Python.

Google's XR Team is responsible for building and maintaining Android XR, a Platform, supporting Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies that can see and sense the world from the same vantage point as you, and interweave digital information onto the world around you. Our goal is to give people superhuman capabilities by making computing more perceptive, immersive, and accessible. The XR DevX Infra team is developing systems, tools and processes to improve developer experience and velocity for Android XR. We support developers, partners and stakeholders to deliver on a regular cadence, with maximum velocity and trust.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, deploy, maintain, and enhance complex software solutions that improve the developer workflow, code quality, and release velocity.
  • Lead the technical design and implementation of projects, making key architectural and technical decisions.
  • Identify and analyze pain points in the software development lifecycle; propose and implement innovative solutions, increasingly leveraging AI/ML.
  • Develop and integrate AI-powered features into developer tools to assist with code generation, code review, test generation, bug detection/triaging, and more.
  • Collaborate closely with various engineering teams to understand their needs, gather requirements, and drive the adoption of new tools and best practices.
