Software Engineer, Front End, Google Classroom

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of development experience with front-end programming languages (specifically Typescript/Javascript) and at least one framework/library (React, Angular, etc).
  • 2 years of experience with front-end frameworks, full-stack development, or API development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms in either an academic or industry setting and experience developing accessible technologies.
  • 2 years of experience with performance, systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
  • Interest in education, and in empowering the world’s educators to improve outcomes for learners.

In this role, you will be responsible for the overall health and technical direction of the Google Classroom Web app. From simplifying code patterns, to improving user navigability, the team is committed to delivering a high quality web experience for Classroom users and developers alike.

For users, we develop cross-cutting features like user education workflows and intuitive and accessible navigation. For developers, we focus on making the app fast and easy to work with by building and maintaining reusable building blocks, establishing reusable design and data access patterns, and being stewards of overall product excellence and application health.

Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
