Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering), or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, abuse detection/prevention, or a related field (e.g., search quality, data science).
- Experience in data extraction, manipulation, and analysis using SQL and scripting languages (e.g., Python).
- Experience with web technologies, search engine ecosystems, and common web abuse tactics.
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams to design, develop, and launch technical solutions or algorithm improvements.
Preferred qualifications:
- 12 years of experience in roles focused on abuse detection, anti-spam, search quality, or adversarial data analysis
- Experience in designing and developing novel machine learning models and data pipelines for abuse fighting.
- Experience influencing executive leadership and cross-functional teams on technical strategy and product direction, and drive multi-quarter roadmaps for investigative projects or anti-abuse efforts.
- Experience in or understanding of the SEO industry and webmaster practices.
- Experience in leading ambiguous, and cross-functional investigative projects from conception to impact.
- Ability to contribute to the areas related to data science , machine learning, or abuse fighting.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of protecting Google Search users from spam and harmful content. You will apply your investigative and technical skills to identify and prevent manipulative behavior, contribute to the development and enforcement of spam guidelines, and partner with engineering teams to enhance search ranking algorithms.You will have an understanding of data analysis, to develop innovative solutions and metrics, and a passion for improving the overall search experience. Your contributions will directly impact the quality and trustworthiness of Google Search for users worldwide.
You will work with a team dedicated to maintaining a high-quality search experience, serving as a crucial line of defense against spam and manipulative practices, where a core priority is protecting users by ensuring search results are trustworthy and reliable, particularly as new technologies like AI create novel issues. You will identify, analyze, and mitigate various forms of spam across a broad range of search surfaces, leveraging both established techniques research.In Google Search, we're reimagining what it means to search for information – any way and anywhere. Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of engineering analysts, defining and leading the direction for analyzing, detecting, and combating emerging and spam threats for Search.
- Develop and advocate innovative investigative methodologies and frameworks to understand and measure the spam ecosystem, pioneering the use of advanced technologies (e.g., custom ML models, LLMs, graph analysis) for spam detection, measurement, and enforcement.
- Serve as a technical expert on spam analysis, data exploitation, and anti-abuse techniques within Search.
- Lead investigative components of anti-spam projects, often spanning multiple teams and systems, while maintaining deep expertise in the external Search Engine Optimization (SEO), tools, and tactics.
- Represent the team's investigative capabilities and insights in technical and product reviews while advising and influencing executive leadership (Directors, VPs) and partner teams on anti-spam strategy, policy, and enforcement.
