Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience with cloud native architecture in a customer-facing or support role.
  • Experience working with customers in the Life Sciences or Pharmaceutical industries, with a focus on Drug Discovery workflows and scientific applications.
  • Experience in High-Performance Computing (HPC) concepts, architectures, and technologies.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud or on-premises infrastructure engineering.
  • Experience architecting and developing software or infrastructure for scalable, high-performance, distributed systems.
  • Experience as an IT infrastructure consultant or enterprise architect in data center transformation strategies, migrations, proposals, or organizational alignment and change management.
  • Experience conducting technical workshops, proof-of-concepts, and customer evaluations.
  • Understanding of common systems management concepts such as image management, patching, automated deployment, etc.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and people skills, with the ability to design and articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and business audiences.

You liaise with the product marketing management and engineering teams to stay on top of industry trends and devise enhancements to Google Cloud products.

As a Customer Engineer, you will partner with technical Sales teams as a subject matter expert in High Performance Computing (HPC) to our Life Sciences and Healthcare customers, helping them leverage the power of Google Cloud to accelerate their research, development, and innovation – particularly in drug discovery pipelines. You will present practical and useful solutions on Google Cloud, be responsible for understanding the complex technical and scientific challenges faced by our customers in drug discovery, then developing, architecting, and demonstrating creative Google Cloud solutions that solve their business challenges. You'll engage in proofs of concepts, and troubleshoot any technical questions and roadblocks. This will involve deep dives into their HPC infrastructure, scientific workflows, data analytics pipelines, and cloud adoption strategies.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$218,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work with the team to identify and qualify business opportunities, understand key customer technical objections, and develop the strategy to resolve technical blockers in the context of drug discovery research and development. 
  • Recommend and document migration paths, integration strategies, enterprise architectures, platforms, and application infrastructure required to successfully implement a complete solution on Google Cloud.
  • Lead workshops for strategic customers to assess existing application/infrastructure environments and organizational readiness. Identify potential use cases for cloud computing and paths to digital transformation.
  • Develop architectural blueprints to enable infrastructure, high performance computing, and mainframe migration opportunities, coordinating with Product and Specialist teams.
  • Articulate the value proposition of Google Cloud for Life Sciences and HPC, specifically demonstrating how GCP solutions can accelerate drug discovery timelines and improve scientific outcomes.
