Senior Staff Network Engineering Manager, Global Network Solutions

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience with network routing protocols, design and troubleshooting, with network equipment providers.
  • 3 years of experience managing and building teams.
  • Experience with planning and designing networks such as multiple sites, multiple products, etc.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in automation/scripting languages for data analysis.
  • Knowledge of Content Distribution Networks (CDN), Internet Protocol (IP) transit/peering, dark fiber, colocation, optical transport, cloud technologies and industry processes.
  • Understanding the technical and process issues in network planning along with financial skills such as budget creation and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to represent projects from business, product and technical perspectives.

As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's network provides services to millions of Internet users around the world. Our metros are on the edge of our network where Google connects to its users. The Network Team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. Our team owns the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s data centers and metro points of presence globally. From the foundation, we are involved from site acquisition to construction and are accountable for what space and power is delivered. We're involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $227,000-$320,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Manage team of network engineers and technical program managers, establish strategy and goals aligned with partners and stakeholders and drive execution, risk mitigation and contingency planning.
  • Document architectural policy and standards across OSI layers by driving the team to define and stiplulate rules (e.g. L0-L1 mapping, L1-L3 striping rules, etc).
  • Align cross-functional alignment across product, technology, software engineering and business, develop methodologies to convert plans into machine- readable policies for consistent deployment across the Google Global Networking (GGN) stack.
  • Implement hardware life-cycle policies and define consumption plans for the existing deployed fleet and inventory.
  • Define business requirements for technology and software development partners to ensure seamless integration of new platforms into the production planning and design process at scale.
