Senior Director, Global Communications and Public Affairs, APAC

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 20 years of experience creating and managing internal and external communications.
  • Experience working directly with regional and global leaders as an advisor and building relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience advocating for the region, building internal relationships across the organization.
  • Experience leading a team through change. Experience planning and executing on multiple initiatives and crises simultaneously and independently.
  • Experience leading a team in the APAC region.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Subject matter expert in communications and regional matters, including the growing importance of social media, influencers, and creators.
  • Expertise in internal communications, oriented towards a regional role for a global company.
  • Experience and ability to work on challenging regulatory issues.
  • Ability to craft and drive the dialogue, and creative problem-solving and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience with proactive communications and professional reactive communications and strategies.
  • Experience as a corporate spokesperson and public representation of a company.

As a Head of Communications, you will be committed to advocating for Google, our users, employees, and the Asia Pacific region in which Google operates. The APAC region encompasses fast moving, ever-evolving businesses and products that are the subject of intense global regulatory and competitive challenges and opportunities, at the same time that the communications and media landscape is rapidly changing. You will lead through this landscape, partnering closely with peers in APAC, other regions and US. You will be capable of leading and mentoring a close-knit high performing team.

We help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners, opinion leaders--and our own employees--about the benefits of Google's products, our distinctive company culture/values and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day. You are quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious. To succeed in this role, you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines. Things happen quickly at Google, and to do great work, you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross-functionally with partners across PR, Communications, Marketing, Product, and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead execution of the external and internal communications strategy for the APAC region, including campaigns to raise awareness and advance strategic priorities. 
  • Partner with global and regional communications counterparts on a broad range of products, issues and audiences. Be an advocate for APAC and an amplifier of HQ within APAC. 
  • Be a counselor and partner to APAC regional leaders to communicate Google's key messages across Asia Pacific across product and consumer focused efforts, corporate reputation, and internal communications. Represent the Communications function to Google leaders.
  • Lead, inspire, develop, and manage a large team across APAC. Cultivate a positive culture that supports team members and fosters their development.
  • Serve as a spokesperson. Establish and maintain relationships with international, national, and trade media covering Google. Drive the team’s efforts around social media, influencers, and creators.
