Senior Privacy Engineer, Google Photos

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Law, or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience in a privacy or data protection role, with a focus on cloud technologies.
  • 2 years of experience designing solutions that maintain or enhance the privacy posture of the organization by analyzing and assessing proposed engineering designs (e.g., product features, infrastructure systems) and influencing stakeholders.
  • 2 years of experience applying privacy technologies (e.g., differential privacy, automated access management solutions, etc.), and customizing existing solutions and frameworks to meet organizational needs.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience conducting data flow assessments, privacy impact assessments (PIAs), and risk mitigation strategies for cloud projects.
  • Knowledge of data security principles and threat modeling techniques, particularly as applied to cloud environments.
  • Understanding of privacy principles, frameworks, and regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) in the context of cloud services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear and concise documentation related to cloud privacy practices.

Our Privacy Working Groups mission is to work with Photos' and Google One's product and engineering teams to ensure that privacy risks are identified and mitigated. This helps us continue to keep the trust of our users and ensure that these products maintain their commitment to high privacy standards. This Privacy Working Group (PWG) supports these organizations in building products that earn and maintain user trust. PWG team members contribute to the successful execution of the PWG's mission. As an embedded group the team members can create deeper engagements within the PA to evolve a more mature, scalable, and effective privacy story.Google Photos is a photo sharing and storage service developed by Google. Photos is one of the most sought after products at Google and is looking for both client-side (web and mobile), with server-side (search, storage, serving) and machine intelligence (learning, computer vision) Software Engineers. We are dedicated to making Google experiences centered around the user.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze privacy risks and compliance requirements associated with new cloud technologies, products, and services.
  • Conduct data flow assessments of cloud-based systems and identify potential privacy impacts on individuals.
  • Develop clear and concise privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for cloud projects and advise on mitigation strategies.
  • Review data collection practices, data usage policies, and privacy notices for cloud offerings for accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with cloud engineering teams to design and implement privacy-enhancing technologies and features.
