About the job

There's no such thing as a "safe system" - only safer systems. Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. As a Security Engineer, you help protect network boundaries, keep computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and provide security services to protect highly sensitive data like passwords and customer information. Security Engineers work directly with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. You also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

You use your industry experience to own and drive the resolution of complex security incidents, policy questions and technical security issues.

The Enterprise Infrastructure Protection (EIP) team is responsible for protecting Google's enterprise environment from advanced attackers in the world.

In this role, you will work on a broad set of efforts focusing on building solutions to improve security across our Acquisitions and Alphabet companies. You will be working on a wide variety of infrastructures, software designs, and technology stacks from startups that Google acquires and Alphabet companies that Google launches. You will manage project priorities, deadlines and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance security solutions while working with partner teams. You will perform technical security assessments, security consulting, and design reviews to highlight risk, helping Google teams and partners improve security.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and implement security solutions to identify, measure, and remediate security gaps in Alphabet's infrastructure using public clouds (e.g., Google Cloud Platform) and on-premise physical networks.
  • Review designs for cloud architecture and already deployed infrastructure to perform technical security assessments, develop threat models, provide design feedback, report security findings and provide remediation recommendation.
  • Design solutions and develop documentation that ensure Alphabet's infrastructure using public clouds (e.g., Google Cloud Platform), on-premise physical networks, and other third-party hosted software and systems to the security standards.
  • Build security tools and processes using Python or Go for critical infrastructure protection, monitoring, and remediation.
