Head of US Community Development and Engagement, Google Data Centers

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in program or project management.
  • Experience developing and implementing global strategies and frameworks.
  • Experience managing programs and processes across distributed systems.
  • Experience with creating and implementing external communications plans, including crisis communication management, utilizing modern communication strategies.


Preferred qualifications:

  • JD, LLB, equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in community engagement, public policy, or attorney-level in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Experience in building trust with local municipalities, non-profit decision makers, and community members.
  • Experience managing contractors, agencies, or other third-parties.
  • Understanding of research methodologies, including experience in developing and sharing strategic recommendations from a broad range of data sources (e.g., survey data, social intelligence, qualitative research, online telemetry, business metrics).
  • Ability to set clear expectations internally and externally based on community needs, available funding and timelines.

The Community Development and Engagement team (CDE) drives business value by accelerating new technical infrastructure delivery and growth, protecting Google’s license to operate in markets around the world, and leveraging community partnerships and innovative expertise to deliver solutions for community development and engagement.

As the Head of US Community Development and Engagement, you will serve as a pivotal leader, strategically shaping and supporting Google's infrastructure growth. You will set the strategic goal for how our data centers become integral, valued partners in their communities, ensuring our presence drives sustainable social impact. You will identify community needs through data-driven assessments, crafting and implementing strategic investment plans that are scalable and align with Google's broader corporate objectives. You will lead and empower cross-functional teams to achieve measurable social impact, fostering a culture of shared responsibility and innovation. A key part of your leadership involves cultivating and maintaining strategic relationships with key opinion former, stakeholders, and government officials, inspiring them to partner in Google's community initiatives. You will define and implement the strategic roadmap for programmatic community development, serving as a subject matter expert and organizational leader to entrench and evolve best practices, ultimately ensuring Google's community impact is strategically integrated into our long-term business success.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$258,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a global strategic framework for data center community impact, aligning it with business objectives and leading cross-functional teams to achieve ambitious goals for responsible infrastructure growth.
  • Oversee data-driven community needs assessments, transforming research into actionable insights to inform long-term, evidence-based investment plans that prioritize community needs and deliver measurable strategic outcomes.
  • Architect and execute comprehensive communication strategies to shape community perception, educating stakeholders on the value and positive societal impact of data center operations.
  • Forge high-level strategic alliances with community leaders and organizations, inspiring them to advocate Google's community goals and integrate initiatives for mutual, long-term positive impact and local vitality.
  • Lead the adaptation of global community engagement frameworks, guiding teams to ensure effective localization while orchestrating alignment across internal stakeholders to maximize collective impact and resource efficiency.
