Our team is the engine behind the core experiences that Google Home Camera users rely on every day from live viewing in crisp high dynamic range to alerts that distinguish between people, animals, and vehicles. We own a wide spectrum of critical areas, from the intricate business logic running on the camera to the sophisticated systems that manage video streaming, clip creation, and encoder quality. We are not just writing code, we are building the intelligence, reliability, and seamless experiences (like two-way talk and familiar face recognition with Nest Aware) that make Google Home Camera a leader in home security.
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Tune software for minimal latency and maximum battery life on our wireless cameras, improving the embedded device while ensuring reliable, long-lasting operation.
- Develop and enhance the on-camera business logic that powers critical features like intelligent motion detection (differentiating people, animals, and vehicles), sound detection, and the foundation for features like familiar face alerts with Nest Aware.
- Refine and improve the logic for event clip creation and reliable uploading to the cloud, giving users access to valuable event video history when they need it.
