  • Master's degree or Ph.D. with emphasis on biophotonics or medical sensing.
  • 10 years of experience in optical sensor design, development, and testing, with applications in health or medical devices.
  • Experience launching optical sensor products or systems for health monitoring from concept to production.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$258,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design, model, and simulate optical sensor systems and components (e.g., LEDs, lasers, photodiodes, spectrometers, optical fibers, lenses) for health and biometric signal acquisition.
  • Develop and execute test plans for characterizing optical sensor performance in the context of biological signal measurement, including calibration, validation, and reliability testing.
  • Prototype, build, and integrate optical sensor modules into health monitoring devices and systems.
  • Analyze experimental data, including physiological signals, troubleshoot issues, and optimize sensor performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including biomedical engineers, data scientists, mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure product development and integration.
