Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Experience advising on product safety regulatory matters, with CPSC and other relevant regulators (e.g., Health Canada, ACCC, DGCCRF), and product liability.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 7 years of work experience in complex safety focused regulatory projects.
  • Experience in successfully performing in high stakes, high pressure environments.
  • Deep consumer electronics safety legal experience with a manufacturer.
  • Ability to work comfortably and be conversational across different business functions (e.g., product, engineering, supply chain, marketing, finance, compliance, policy, HR) and lines of business (e.g., engineering, compliance, sales, supply chain, international markets).
  • Passionate about regulatory compliance and safety matters.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $210,000-$312,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Advise on safety incident escalations, oversee risk assessments and guide the assessment of Google’s reporting obligation to competent safety authorities. Advise on and assist post-launch safety matters, including regulatory investigations, inquiries and audits.
  • Perform legal analysis, complete complex legal assignments independently, respond promptly to legal requests from clients and legal colleagues, summarizing and communicating legal concepts and potential courses of action that business people can use.
  • Track, monitor and advise on upcoming global technical regulations with impact on the safety of consumer devices. Help shape safety policies.
  • Help set harmonized product safety compliance protocols. Oversee and keep current our legal framework to address safety and product liability impact of compliance.
  • Advise on contractual provisions addressing safety regulatory matters for key supply chain and distribution partnerships.
