Staff Software Engineer, Cloud SQL for SQL Server

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • Experience with system design and distributed systems.
  • Database experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience in software development.
  • Experience with Go, Java, Python.
  • Experience in SQL Server or other relational databases.
  • Proven record collaborating with multiple teams and convincing technical stakeholders.
  • Track record of production excellence and offering managed services.

The team provides a managed SQL Server offering, one the fast growing database offerings within Cloud SQL. The team manages all aspects of database service implementations, which includes high availability, backups, database point of time recovery, performance improvements, integration with Google Cloud Ecosystems, and growing the customer base with our premium enterprise offering.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure robust design, timely implementation, correctness of code, and support of SQL Server, one of the fast growing database engines within Cloud SQL product family.
  • Work with product management to define features and create and drive roadmaps for one or more functional areas in the team.
  • Work on strategic initiatives to grow the service and improve the reliability of the service.
  • Participate and manage technical debt reduction analysis and the implementation efforts.
  • Participate in the on-call rotations and help maintain and mentor junior engineers and foster collaboration in a healthy team culture.
