UX Research Manager, Android AI Experiences

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in an applied research setting, or similar.
  • 3 years of experience leading design projects and managing people or teams.
  • Experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including research design, data collection, analysis, and synthesis.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional teams (e.g., product management, design, engineering) to drive product strategy and execution.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in human-computer interaction, cognitive science, statistics, psychology, anthropology, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience managing projects, and working in a changing organization.
  • Experience leading research for AI/ML driven products or features.
  • Experience in a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, with the ability to build a multi-stream research agenda across teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate a compelling idea and influence technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership.

UX Research Managers are fierce advocates for the people who use our products as well as the members of their teams. You’re an expert at using qualitative research methods such as field studies, interviews, and diary studies to shape product development and influence overall strategy.

In this role, you’ll take the time to understand not just the execution side of UX, but also the business aspects of the products we build. You’ll collaborate with leaders of other UX, Engineering, and Product Management teams to create innovative experiences across all of Google’s products, leveraging your passion for brand, craft, and design quality.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $178,000-$265,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and high-quality practices. Provide guidance, coaching, and career development opportunities for direct reports.
  • Implement approaches and solutions to move quickly while delivering trustworthy insights in scalable ways.
  • Work cross-functionally to develop what’s next for Android, contributing to future strategies by bringing a user-centered lens to solve problems. 
  • Contribute to key projects and demonstrate best practices.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and analysis of both qualitative (e.g., in-depth interviews, ethnographic studies, usability testing, diary studies) and quantitative (e.g., surveys, evaluations, statistical modeling) research to uncover holistic user insights.
