Senior Hardware Engineer, Control Electronics Test

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of experience in custom PCB bring-up, testing, and hardware validation efforts, from planning through execution.
  • 5 years of experience using lab measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers (e.g., Keysight).
  • Experience in electronic design and test.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience overseeing test and manufacturing by third party manufacturing partners.
  • Experience leading electronic test activities, either as an individual or within a team.
  • Expertise in electronic characterization techniques relevant to analog, mixed-signal, RF, and digital subsystems, with experience in on-wafer measurements.
  • Proficiency in generating detailed technical documentation.

The Quantum team's mission is to make quantum computing tools available to the world. The Quantum electronics team is carrying out a broad range of Research and Development (R&D) aimed at implementing quantum computers, with a long-term goal of realizing a fault-tolerant quantum computer.

In this role, you will be a member of the quantum electronics team, owning the test of our quantum control and measurement components and systems. You will work with hardware engineers to understand system architectures and using this understanding, you will develop detailed test plans which you will execute separately or with the assistance of others. You will develop test fixtures, including designing necessary electronics systems, to support these measurements. You will work with agreement manufacturers to establish test procedures for test and calibration of our control systems. You will document measurements through documents, presentations, or datasheets.

The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design custom electronic hardware to facilitate high-speed and comprehensive verification of test-equipment-grade quantum control systems containing analog, digital, and Radio Frequency (RF) subsystems.
  • Generate test plans for internal testing of analog/mixed-signal/RF components and assemblies and own execution of these test plans.
  • Own the design and development of automated testing platforms for use in production testing, including the design and fabrication of custom RF/analog test interface hardware where required.
  • Develop and execute upon hardware bench verification and reporting protocols, communicating hardware-under-test performance and compliance metrics to the larger quantum team.
