Business Data Scientist, YouTube Partner Program

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience using SQL to extract and manipulate quantitative data.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or a relevant PhD degree.
  • Experience with a programming language commonly used in data analysis, such as Python or R.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods (e.g., descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, correlation) with excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of data pipeline concepts and tools with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques (e.g., Tableau, Matplotlib, etc.).

The YouTube Trust and Safety Analytics team mission is to be the most trusted and integral partner to our stakeholders, by embedding our experience into their decisions and defining our brand by the speed and foresight we deliver.

The YouTube Partner Program Analytics team operates in a high-stakes environment, providing comprehensive analytics for verticals that rely on tooling. We manage a rigorous cadence of high-visibility executive reporting, where frequent and significant policy changes directly impact north-star metrics and other core operational metrics. As the demand for sophisticated insights continues to accelerate, the YPP Analytics team remains critical in navigating this increasing complexity and driving decision-making across the platform.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $117,000-$168,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining and updating existing metrics and risk profiling frameworks to support safe feature launches.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining models to assess operational capacity on new product launches, performing tasks such as data extraction, cleaning, and model validation.
  • Conduct analysis to estimate precision/recall, support A/B testing, and assess user impact of policies using established methodologies, and summarize findings.
  • Develop components of automated data pipelines and utilize existing investigation frameworks to help monitor launch safety, detect abuse, and track operations performance. Collaborate on data requests and analyses to support broader metrics infrastructure projects.
  • Perform investigations into abuse rates and review method effectiveness as directed, contributing to data collection and trend analysis for root cause analyses. Track and report on north star metric performance, preparing routine updates for review.
