Engineering Manager, Health and Fitness Platform Development

  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Python, C, C++).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

In this role, you will assist in the creation of a first-party Android application designed to aggregate and centralize all of your personal health and fitness information. This comprehensive platform will provide a unified view of your health metrics, enabling you to proactively monitor your well-being and gain valuable insights into the long-term trends and patterns of your health journey. By seamlessly integrating data from various sources, our app aims to empower you with a holistic understanding of your health, facilitating informed decisions and promoting a healthier lifestyle.

The Health Platforms and Devices team builds innovative products and services that help our users live longer, healthier lives. We bring together the best of Google technologies and AI, health behavior science, and user-centered design to help users organize the health and wellness data, get insight from it, and take action toward their health goals. We do this with a suite of apps, services, and health wearables. We aim to make consumer health more personal, proactive, and actionable.

Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals. Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams. Leading multiple technical projects to deliver high quality and usable products for our customers across domains. 
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization's goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Develop the technical direction and roadmap within the scope of the teams. Evolve the roadmap to meet future requirements and infrastructure needs.
  • Design, guide and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve problems. Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback.
  • Comply with all company health and safety policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
