Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
- Experience driving cross-functional collaboration, decision making, and data analysis.
Preferred qualifications:
- 5 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
- Experience growing and delivering impactful results in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and resource-constrained environment (e.g., startup experience, new product incubation, research and development teams).
- Experience developing, evaluating, and iterating on GenAI/Machine Learning models (experience with hill climbing techniques).
- Experience prioritizing learning and iteration speed, especially in early-stage development (experience beyond building only production-hardened code).
- Experience in product development.
- Experience rapid prototyping and experimentation.

The AI Memory and Context team is a high-impact group within the AI Innovation and Research (AIR) organization, part of Platforms and Devices (P&D). Our mission is to pioneer personalized and private AI memory and context technologies that enable seamless, intelligent cross-device experiences. By building a deep understanding of user intent and behavior, we aim to transform how Google’s platforms—like Pixel, Android, Chrome, and Home—deliver cohesive, proactive, and intelligent assistance.As a Software Engineer on this dynamic team, you will play a crucial role in bringing differentiated AI features to life. You will be building systems that understand users holistically through private and personalized memory. You will need to grow on rapid prototyping and iteration to quickly explore new experiences, collaborate closely with leading researchers and product teams, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in AI context modeling. This is a foundational, zero-to-one opportunity to influence core capabilities at the intersection of ML, software engineering, and UX in a constantly evolving space.
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with Researchers across Alphabet (Google DeepMind, Google Research, Labs, etc.) to translate concepts into functional AI capabilities for personalized memory and context.
- Collaborate with Product teams across Platforms and Devices (Chrome, Pixel, Android etc.) to understand evolving product needs and co-create innovative cross-device ecosystem experiences.
- Embrace ambiguity and proactively identify opportunities, define solutions, and navigate the fluid landscape inherent in a pioneering research and development environment.
- Ideate, design, and run experiments to develop, evaluate, and improve models, infrastructure, and user experiences, focusing on fast feedback loops.
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to plan, prioritize, and execute projects in a dynamic setting.
