Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- 3 years of experience with embedded operating systems.
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
- 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
- Experience with operating systems, embedded systems, firmware, reliability, resource management, servers, C, and C++.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Experience in computer architecture, bootloaders, continuous build, continuous deployment, continuous test, data center architecture, Linux Kernel, PCI express, and unified extensible firmware interface.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
Platforms Infrastructure Engineering (PIE) engineers design and build the software, hardware, computing platforms and networking technologies that power ALL of Google’s services. Google's computing platforms are the largest, most energy and cost-efficient distributed computing infrastructure in the world.
The Server Software team is responsible for designing and developing the firmware and software to bring up and run Google's custom designed servers, appliances, switches and supporting these at scale in the fleet. We work closely with many partner teams within and outside of PIE.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Drive a team dedicated to delivering mission-critical system software for data centers, maintaining a relentless focus on engineering quality, deployment velocity, and organizational goals.
- Develop and evolve a mid-term technical strategy and roadmap that anticipates future infrastructure requirements, ensuring your team’s output scales with global needs.
- Design and vet high-level system architectures while remaining enough to write development code that solves complex, ambiguous technical challenges.
- Oversee the technical health of the team by reviewing code and system designs to ensure best practices in testability, efficiency, and long-term maintainability.
- Set clear, role-specific expectations and provide consistent coaching and feedback to help engineers navigate their career development and align their work with broader business impact.
